Dr. Jonathan Lee has been in practice for over two decades since graduating from Trinity College Dublin, Ireland with his Bachelor's degree in Medicine and Surgery in 1995. Dr. Lee received Membership (by examination) to the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2000 and his Masters of Medicine (Surgery) from the National University of Singapore in 2001.

Dr. Lee was born into a medical family and grew up surrounded by medicine and surgery from an early age. His surgical training has taken him through a broad and sound foundation training in General Surgery, Orthopaedics and Plastic Surgery, in addition to other disciplines such as Emergency Medicine and Neurosurgery. Having recognised his aptitude for fine precision work and attention to detail, Dr. Lee was chosen for, and completed, the rigorous 4 year advanced surgical training in Hand and Reconstructive Surgery that leads to Fellowship of the Academy of Medicine Singapore and Specialist Accreditation with the Ministry of Health, Singapore.

Dr. Jonathan Lee currently has practices at both Mount Elizabeth Hospital Medical Centre and Parkway East Hospital Medical Centres, providing surgical support to local, expatriate and regional patients. Prior to this, Dr. Lee was on the staff of the Department of Hand Surgery, Singapore General Hospital from 2001 to 2007.

Aiming always to be at the forefront of surgical skills, knowledge and technology, Dr. Lee is an avid researcher and has devoted much of his time to research and contributed extensively to international and local medical journals. To date, he has published in excess of 20 scientific articles in international peer reviewed journals, and contributed much to the advancement of Hand Surgery.

Dr. Lee has won prizes for his research, including the second prize for best free paper at the 16th Annual scientific meeting of the Singapore Society for Hand Surgery (SHSS) in (2006, the Second prize for best free paper at the 15th SHSS Annual Scientific meeting, and the 3rd prize at the 2002 SHSS Annual Scientific Meeting.

Dr. Lee's paper on “Fracture Dislocations of the PIP joint” was one of the top 10 downloaded articles in the Journal of Hand Surgery (British and European) for 2006. In recognition, Dr Lee was invited by the Federation of European Societies for Surgery of the Hand (FESSH) to present his work on “Fracture Dislocations of the PIP joint” at its Annual Congress in Greece in 2007. Dr. Lee has also presented his research work at medical meetings and congresses both locally and abroad, including Greece, Indonesia, Japan, Thailand and the USA.

Dr. Lee continues to be active in education, volunteering his time to teaching and speaking engagements at public forums on hand and health related issues, as well as instructing at courses for hospital doctors, polyclinic general practitioners, and junior doctors. Dr. Lee is also an Advanced Trauma Life Support course instructor at the SAF School of Military Medicine, Singapore.

LEADERSHIP & ADMINISTRATIVE POSITIONS

Dr. Lee’s leadership contributions to the Hand Surgery Specialty in Singapore include his service as an executive committee member of the Singapore Society for Hand Surgery (SHSS) from 2003 to 2006, where he served in various capacities as its treasurer, Web Master and Executive committee member, and organising committee for 3 consecutive Hand Surgery Review Courses and Annual Scientific Meetings.

Dr. Lee remains a current (2017-2019) and long standing executive board member of the Chapter of Hand Surgery, College of Surgeons in the Academy of Medicine, Singapore.

SERVICE AWARDS

In recognition of his commitment to service and patient satisfaction, Dr. Lee has received the SGH Service Quality Award for outstanding service and distinguishing himself as a service champion (August, 2006), and the Service with a Heart Award (January 2007). In addition, He received regular positive feedback and appreciative comments from outpatients in the hospital’s Making a Difference Report Card initiative. In August 2007, Dr. Lee received a 10 Year Long Service Award from Singapore General Hospital.
